Sustainable tourism is the way forward, and the European Union is calling on tourism and ecotourism SMEs in Greece, Cyprus, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Italy and Romania to take advantage of a COSME project co-funded by the European Union.

Through “Star Growth- Sustainable Tools & Activities for Rural tourism and ecotourism SME’s Growth”, the consortium will select 15 SMEs per country and deliver a grant of €7.500 to each. The grant is aimed at supporting eligible and necessary activities that will help the SMEs to prepare and apply for sustainability and environmental certification, generate Product Environmental Footprint (PEF) studies, implement improvement measures, develop sustainability strategy plans, and uptake of innovative sustainable solutions.

The call, that will be published on 30th of April and will be active until 5th of July is specifically targeted at SMEs operating in the ATECO classes of 55.10.00 Hotels and similar accommodation, 55.20.10, 55.20.20, 55.20.30, 55.20.40, 55.20.51, 55.20.52: Holiday and other short-stay accommodation, and 55.30.00: Camping grounds, recreational vehicle parks and trailer parks. These SMEs have a unique opportunity to access this grant scheme to enhance their sustainability efforts and increase their competitiveness. Other criteria to fulfil for the eligibility:

  • Being established at least for one financial year to be proved through the Company Registration report;
  • Being a small- or medium-sized enterprise (SME), according to the EU Recommendation 2003;
  • Being established in an EU Member State and operating in Greece, Cyprus, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Italy and Romania.
